Hendricks knowingly took possession of and/or caused to be carried away any merchandize displayed, held, stored, and/or offered for sale in a retail mercantile establishment with the intention of retaining such merchandise and/or with the intention of depriving the merchant permanently of the possession, use, and/or benefit of such merchandize without paying the full retail value of such merchandise, in that Det. Hendricks took one or more bottles of vitamin supplements from a Whole Foods store past the last point of purchase without paying for the merchandize, in violation of section 16-25(a)(1) of the Criminal Code of 2012 (720 ILCS 5/16-25(a)(1) (West 2012)), entitled "Retail theft."
